The Arab Union of Photographers e.V. was established in the year 2004 as the international centre in Hamburg. The founding members include professional photographers, ambitious amateurs, artists and the culturally interested.

The first arabic-european photographic festival was organised during the foundation year, with the support of the Sheik Dr. Sultan Bin Muhammad Al-Qasimi, ruler of the Emirate Sharjah, and member of the highest council of the UAE, the Asian-African-Institute of the university of Hamburg, the league of Arabic States of the German-Orient-Institute and the Senate Hamburg.

In the meantime the Arab Union of Photographers e.V., which is recognized as a non-profit making organisation, can look back on many events, such as the annual exhibition as part of the Altonale, exhibitions at the Goethe-Institute, the tri-annual photography exhibition (2008) and a permanent show of material in the foundation’s gallery in the Große Bergstraße – Hamburg-Altona. It is currently organizing the fifth arab-european photographic festival.
